North Carolina's polluters are getting away with it.
Not anymore.
our focus areas
We focus on the largest and most harmful sources of pollution in North Carolina — many driven by large industries and overseas corporations that treat our state as a dumping ground for their waste. These burdens fall hardest on our state's most vulnerable communities and ecosystems.
That's why we're here: to be a countervailing force, challenging polluters directly with an ambitious, on-the-ground approach.
-
Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations (CAFOs) pollute our air, water, and soil by mismanaging massive volumes of animal waste. These operations endanger the health of nearby communities and devastate the environment, all while confining animals in conditions so extreme, they are stripped of any chance at a natural life.
-
Forests are disappearing as reckless industries pollute the air, soil, and water to turn our trees into wood pellets and other products, many of which are exported.
-
Mismanaged waste sites contaminate groundwater and surface waters with dangerous chemicals, harming the environment and nearby communities.
-
Overfishing and water pollution threaten coastal and marine habitats up and down the North Carolina coastline.
-
Some industrial polluters recklessly discharge waste straight into creeks, rivers, and other water bodies, hurting ecosystems and people.
-
Often overlooked, air pollution can cause acute and long-term damage to ecosystems and numerous human health problems, from asthma and increased infection risk to anxiety and depression.
